Artist's Description

Each piece of art has a story, or a history attached. Often, I pick out an old photo and “see” a story that’s waiting to be created. When my dear sister passed away, I inherited some of her old photos of me. I found three pictures of myself, two of which were in black and white and created “Mother’s Little Helper”. In it, the baby was a photo of me when I was about 6 months old and probably trying to see what the world looked like upside down. Since I was going to use a little girl as well, I changed the baby’s sex to a boy and gave him some clothes. I changed the girl’s dress and gave her bangs. I was seated in our porch with a bit of a pregnant belly and so, added the mother watching her kids. I figured it was kind of cool to have myself represented three different ways in one canvas. Anyway, that was the thinking behind it and it was fun!

About Olga Silverman

Olga Silverman

A FEW WORDS ABOUT ME: Thank you for taking the time to look at my work. Born and raised in New York, I spent years working as a graphic artist for the training division of a bank. Over the years, I have also done freelance work, creating newsletters, brochures, manuals and advertising for various organizations. But, painting and drawing was what I enjoyed during my free time. As I continued working, that time was limited and I found myself doing less and less of my favorite pastime. Having recently retired, I have gone back to my artwork and have not stopped yet. I have exhibited some of my artwork at the Mystic Outdoor Art Festival, the Brooklyn Heights Promenade Art Show, the Great Neck Library, the Sea Cliff Arts & Crafts...
