Each piece of art has a story, or a history attached. Often, I pick out an old photo and “see” a story that’s waiting to be created. When my dear sister passed away, I inherited some of her old photos of me. I found three pictures of myself, two of which were in black and white and created “Mother’s Little Helper”. In it, the baby was a photo of me when I was about 6 months old and probably trying to see what the world looked like upside down. Since I was going to use a little girl as well, I changed the baby’s sex to a boy and gave him some clothes. I changed the girl’s dress and gave her bangs. I was seated in our porch with a bit of a pregnant belly and so, added the mother watching her kids. I figured it was kind of cool to have myself represented three different ways in one canvas. Anyway, that was the thinking behind it and it was fun!
A FEW WORDS ABOUT ME: Thank you for taking the time to look at my work. Born and raised in New York, I spent years working as a graphic artist for the training division of a bank. Over the years, I have also done freelance work, creating newsletters, brochures, manuals and advertising for various organizations. But, painting and drawing was what I enjoyed during my free time. As I continued working, that time was limited and I found myself doing less and less of my favorite pastime. Having recently retired, I have gone back to my artwork and have not stopped yet. I have exhibited some of my artwork at the Mystic Outdoor Art Festival, the Brooklyn Heights Promenade Art Show, the Great Neck Library, the Sea Cliff Arts & Crafts...
